    Trip Description

The Manaslu Circuit Trek is one of Nepal’s most stunning and rewarding treks, taking you around the base of Mount Manaslu (8,163m), the world’s eighth-highest peak. Known for its wild beauty, cultural richness, and fewer crowds, this trek is a perfect choice for trekkers looking for an off-the-beaten-path adventure with all the grandeur of the Himalayas.

Located in the Gorkha region of central Nepal, the Manaslu trail winds through remote mountain villages, ancient Buddhist monasteries, and diverse landscapes ranging from lush lowlands to high alpine valleys. The trek takes you through traditional Tibetan-influenced communities, offering a glimpse into cultures and lifestyles untouched by modernity.

The journey begins in the subtropical forests near Machha Khola and gradually climbs into rugged terrain with breathtaking views of Manaslu, Himalchuli, and Ganesh Himal. A major highlight of the trek is the thrilling crossing of the Larkya La Pass (5,160m), one of the most dramatic and scenic high mountain passes in Nepal. From the top, you’ll enjoy incredible views of glaciers and snow-covered peaks stretching in all directions.

This trek lies within the Manaslu Conservation Area, rich in biodiversity and home to wildlife like Himalayan tahr, blue sheep, and even snow leopards. Since the region is a restricted area, a special permit is required, and trekkers must be accompanied by a licensed guide.

A perfect trek for those seeking wild beauty, cultural depth, and a true Himalayan adventure off the beaten path.

    Detailed Itinerary

Upon arrival at Kathmandu's international airport, a “We Trek & Expeditions” representative will greet you and transfer you to your hotel in Boudhanath, a peaceful area known for its iconic stupa.

After check-in, you can rest or explore the area, depending on your arrival time. In the evening, there will be a briefing session about the trek.

You’ll also enjoy a “Welcome Dinner”  with the guide and all participants. Depending on each participant's arrival time, the "Welcome Dinner" may be changed to a "Farewell Dinner" on the last day.

Transportation: Private Tourist Vehicle, Accom.: Hotel, Meals: Dinner, Sleeping Elevation: 1400M

After breakfast, we depart Kathmandu and begin our journey toward Machha Khola. Leaving the city behind, the road climbs gradually through the Thankot Mountain Pass (1,400 m), where we enjoy our first panoramic views of the distant Himalayas.

Beyond the pass, the route winds through rolling hills, terraced fields, and scattered rural settlements. Once we leave the main paved highway, the drive continues on rough country tracks that reveal the rustic charm of Nepal’s mid-hills.

By late afternoon, we arrive at Machha Khola (900 m), a modest riverside village slowly developing into a small town. After a long but scenic day’s drive, we check into the best available lodge, relax, and enjoy a well-earned dinner before resting for the night.

Drive: 8Hrs, Distance: Approx.160 Km, Accom: Lodge, Meals: BLD, Sleeping Elevation: 900m

A day of acclimatization in preparation for the ascent to Larkya La pass (5100 m) which we will cross in 3 days time. We walked to Lake Birendra (3 hours round trip), fed by the glacier of Manaslu. Conditions depending, we can then continue to the base camp of Manaslu (optional - 3 more hours of walking). The first part of this climb follows a wooded path, but very quickly we find ourselves immersed in the mineral high mountain atmosphere. Discover an unobstructed view of the impressive glaciers of Manaslu. Return along the same route to Samagaon.

Trekking: 3-6 Hrs, Elevation: +1200m/-1000m, Accom: Lodge, Meals: BLD, Sleeping Elevation: 3390m

After breakfast, we begin our trek by following the Budhi Gandaki River, crossing a suspension bridge to reach the small settlement of Khorla Bensi (970 m). The trail undulates along narrow ridges and riverbanks, passing through lush forests, terraced fields, and scattered Gurung and Magar villages.

Along the way, we encounter natural hot springs near Tatopani, where trekkers often take a short break to relax and rejuvenate. From here, the trail continues through rocky sections, with several ascents and descents carved into the steep valley walls.

By afternoon, we make a steady climb toward Jagat (1,370 m)—a picturesque stone-paved village that serves as the official entry point to the Manaslu Conservation Area. Upon arrival, we check into a local lodge and unwind after a rewarding day on the trail.

Trekking: 6-7 Hrs, Distance: Approx. 21Km, Elevation Gain: +470m, Accom: Lodge, Meals: BLD, Sleeping Elevation: 1370m

This area is mainly inhabited by Gurungs and Tibetans. With the increasing altitude, tropical vegetation gradually gives way to a more alpine atmosphere. We walk between dense woodlands and rocky outcrops to Dyang.

Trekking: 6-7 Hrs, Distance: Approx. 20 Km, Elevation: +440m, Accom: Lodge, Meals: BLD, Sleeping Elevation: 1860m

We walked through the gorges to Ghap village. A Tibetan ambiance greats us; manis walls and chortens decorate the entrances and exits of the villages. Prayer flags flutter from stone houses with slate roofs and it is clear from the local dress and traditions that we are approaching Tibet.

Trekking: 6-7 Hrs, Distance: Approx. Km, Elevation: +680m, Accom: Lodge, Meals: BLD, Sleeping Elevation: 2540m

Our trek crosses many Tibetan villages. As we arrive in Lho, we are greeted by our first views of the summit of Manaslu culminating at 8163 m. We continue to Samagaon, a Tibetan village at the foot of the Manaslu mountain range.

Trekking: 7 Hrs, Distance: Approx. 17 Km, Elevation: +870m, Accom: Lodge, Meals: BLD, Sleeping Elevation: 3390m

Morning departure to Pung Gyen Monastery. Found at 3870 m this magical place is just a few steps from gigantic glaciers. The monastery was built in a large meadow at the foot of the majestic Manaslu massif. Our morning effort is largely rewarded by breathtaking 360 ° views of the surrounding high peaks and Manaslu summit. We descend to Sama Gaon, then continue to Samdo, the last inhabited village before the collar of Larkya La.

Trekking: 5 Hrs, Distance: Approx. 17 Km, Elevation: +920m/-550m, Accom: Lodge, Meals: BLD, Sleeping Elevation: 3690m

Samdo is only a few kilometers from Tibet; here an improvised market is organized between Tibet and the locals. We climbed up the glacier valley to reach the foot of the Larkya glacier.

Trekking: 4 Hrs, Distance: Approx. 7-8 Km, Elevation: +550m, Accom: Lodge, Meals: BLD, Sleeping Elevation: 3690m

Today we reached the highest point of our trek, the Larkya pass (5100 m). It is a long steady climb upwards and the show is grand. The long descent presents sublime views of the circus of Peri Himal. Overnight in the paradisaical Bhimthang.

Trekking: 8-9 Hrs, Distance: Approx. 14-16 Km, Elevation: + 750m / -1500m, Accom: Lodge, Meals: BLD, Sleeping Elevation: 3600m

Trekking: 7-8 Hrs, Distance: Approx. 20-22 Km, Elevation: -1300m, Accom: Lodge, Meals: BLD, Sleeping Elevation: 2000m
